Pat Robertson Condemns the 'Demonic Revelry' of Trick-or-Treat

Remember the days when all you had to worry about over Halloween was a razor blade in your candy apple?

In a move that is guaranteed to piss off kids everywhere, right wing televangelist Pat Robertson is taking on Halloween, warning viewers against partaking in its "demonic" revelry, Right Wing Watch reports.

On the Thursday broadcast of "The 700 Club" a viewer with some serious "fun issues" wrote in to Robertson asking him if she, as a good Christian, should allow her children to attend a Halloween party thrown by her own sister.

My sister wants to throw a Halloween party for the children in our family, but I'm a Christian woman and want to continue to instill these values in my children and grandchild, so I don't let them participate in trick-or-treating or costumes. My family feels like I'm stopping my kids' fun.

Will it be wrong to let them go to the party and buy them costumes, and just don't let them trick or treat? Please help because I don't want to see them upset.

"Halloween is a festival for demonic spirits," Robertson answered. "The whole idea of trick-or-treating is the Druids would go to somebody's house and ask for money and if they didn't get money they'd kill one of their sheep, that was the sheep and it was serious stuff. All this business about goblins and jack-o'-lanterns all comes out of demonic rituals of the Druids and the people who lived in England at that particular time."

Not wanting to be a complete fun vacuum, Robertson suggested that the Church "take back" the popular autumn holiday. "Turn it into a Christian festival and that's what we ought to do, we need to redeem these days, but that day was given over to Satanic things."

Thursday's broadcast isn't the first time Robertson has taken on Halloween. In 2011, he condemned a church for hosting a haunted house as an outreach to the "unsaved community."

"Halloween is Satan's night, it's the night for the devil," he said.

Robertson's outrageous claims against Halloween seem almost sane in comparison to Christian blogger, Apostle Kimberly Daniels, who, in a 2009 post on the Christian Broadcasting Network website claimed that "most of the candy sold during this season has been dedicated and prayed over by witches," and that the holiday is a time of "sex with demons" and "rape and molestation of adults, children and babies," among much else.
