Raven-Symoné on Caitlyn Jenner as Activist: 'You've Got to Learn it First'
EDGE READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Following Sunday night's debut of the reality series "I am Cait" on E!, former child star Raven-Symon, who currently is sharing co-hosting duties on "The View" expressed her opinion that Caitlyn Jenner is moving too fast in positioning herself as the go to advocate for transgender rights.
On Monday's edition of "The View," the hot topic on the "hot topics" segment revolved around Sunday night's premiere of Caitlyn Jenner's reality series "I am Cait." Symon praised Jenner for "all she's doing for the community," but expressed concern that she has more to learn before she can lead a movement.
"When I came out, I didn't go and go hardcore and be like, 'I'm going to save the world for LGBT,'" Symon said. "You've got to learn it. You've got to learn it first, and she's not, really."
Symon backed up her point by drawing from her own experience coming out publicly at age 27 in 2013.
"Well, I think you can be strategic before you come out as well," Symon told the panel. "Beforehand, I was definitely repping the community, even when I wasn't saying this is what I was. And I'm not faulting you because yes, we need you. It's too fast, too soon."
"I'm not faulting you, because, yes, we need you," Symon continued.
