Amy Schumer Live At The Apollo
Bill Biss READ TIME: 2 MIN.
"That ain't no lady... that's our Amy." Amy Schumer, that is. With enough profanity to clear a locker room out and a blunt intelligence and blast of sexual observations, Schumer took to the stage of The Apollo Theatre to tape her HBO comedy special, "Amy Schumer: Live at The Apollo."
Whether it's men in general or one man in particular, with her quote, "I would have paid this guy to fuck me" slyly referring to Kevin James, she gets to the dilemma of singles dating in the age of Tinder. Her personal prescription for "tucking herself in" is wine, weed and Ambien and she has no problem in the process of being the brunt of her own jokes. This quality is not only keeping it real but her "smarts" add a strong dose of the hypocrisy of how some women in general, are still viewed with a caveman's eye today.
"Amy Schumer: Live at The Apollo" was directed by fellow comedian Chris Rock and for this sold-out performance, Amy's only props are a stool with a half-empty bottle of white wine and a microphone. It's been a very good year for this vintage of Amy Schumer. A good grasp of her stand-up comedy is reflective of her experiences writing and starring in "Trainwreck." Her unbridled and unhinged passion for food, in a city where actors and women in general, must be thin to be "in" for the camera is simply hilarious.
Leave your frustrated, sexual repressiveness at the door and calmly open your ears to hear her reflect on her vagina and dealing with cum. Experience a thing or two about having an open mind to her social commentary of life, love and the generational gap. She does it up with wit, savvy and hilarity. One thing for certain is that the laughter and unmitigated honesty Schumer brings forth carries a lot of truth and weight to it. Her perspective is refreshingly funny and that is the horn of plenty that Amy Schumer knows how to bring to the table for a live audience from her perspective.
