350,000 Condoms Being Sent to Rio Olympics to Combat Sexually Transmitted Zika

New York, NY, August 1, 2016 - With the Olympics in sight, thousands of athletes will be descending into Rio in the next few weeks.

The plan is to distribute about 350,000 condoms for men and, for the first time, 100,000 female condoms, three times the amount distributed during the games in London four years ago, to attendees of the games, according to the International Olympic Committee. Lubricants will also be supplied.

While the 10,500 athletes and staff will be encouraged to practice safe sex, will they? And in a country where the dreaded Zika virus started, what will the impact be?

Dr. Judy Kuriansky, noted sex therapist and psychologist, believes that despite the threat of the Zika virus, the combination of adrenaline, emotions, hot bodies and flowing hormones is a recipe for rampant sex. With so many Americans traveling to foreign countries this summer, and in the weeks leading up to the games, Kuriansky believes this poses a threat to the spectators of the games, as well as the athletes.
