Far Right Karens Boycott Thanksgiving Day Parade over LGBTQ+ Performers

And they call us the snowflakes?

According to The New York Times, an anti-LGBTQ+ group who call themselves One Million Moms has pledged to boycott this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade because of two nonbinary actors who are scheduled to perform.

Despite being called One Million Moms, the fanatical Karens have collected only about 33,000 signatures in support of the boycott, which is ironic given the name of their organization. In fact, according to The Southern Poverty Law Center, One Million Moms is a designated hate group.

Just as other groups tried to put pressure on companies like Bud Light and Target for their support of the LGBTQ+ community this past summer, One Million Moms is attempting to pressure Macy's for what they see as spreading a radically liberal agenda. Unsurprisingly, the parade – which has featured Broadway performers for more than 50 of its 97 years – is unfazed by the paltry boycott. (They also boycotted "Barbie" earlier this year, which has grossed $1.38 billion worldwide, a wonderful illustration of how nonexistent the hate group's influence is.)

As quoted by The Times, Scott Galloway – a professor of marketing at New York University's Stern School of Business – doesn't seem to think the boycott will make a shred of difference. "I think this is the easiest 'no' in the history of Macy's," he said. "[The protesters] have vastly overestimated their leverage here."

The performers in question are Alex Newell from "Shucked" and Justin David Sullivan from "& Juliet." Newell is a particularly high-profile performer, given that they took home a Tony Award this summer for their hilarious performance, becoming the first openly nonbinary person to win an acting Tony.

And while Macy's didn't bother addressing the meager boycott, a spokeswoman released a statement saying, "We look forward to celebrating this iconic Thanksgiving tradition again next week."

"A lot of these fringe groups are drunk with power," said Galloway. "If I were advising Macy's, this is an opportunity for them to say the following: Judge me by my enemies."

In addition to performances from the casts of "Shucked" and "& Juliet," this year's parade – which will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock starting at 8:30 am – will feature the casts of "Back to the Future: The Musical," "How To Dance in Ohio," and "Spamalot." On the celebrity side of things, you'll have Brandy, Chicago, Katharine McPhee, En Vogue, Jon Batiste, Manuel Turizo, and Pentatonix to look forward to. But the highlight of the parade, with apologies to Santa, will undoubtedly be the finale appearance by gay icon Cher, which is just about as good a "fuck you" as any to the caravan of Karens from Mississippi.
