Johnny Sibilly Details His Sexy 'Gay Firefighting Badass' and Queer Romantic Vibes on 'Station 19'

"Pose" and "Queer As Folk" reboot alum Johnny Sibilly has a hot new role on "Station 19." Sibilly talked about the electricity between his character, Dominic, and that of Travis, played by Jay Hayden.
Interviewed at Shondaland, the recurring "Hacks" guest star leaned into why the newly-introduced Dominic and longtime series regular Travis seem to be so into each other.
"I mean, well, first of all, he's hot," Sibilly said of Hayden's Travis. "I think Dom likes him because he has this thing about him," Sibilly added. "Like his smile. You know, if you watch the show, you know that Jay Hayden has this special quality about him. He's, like, attractive, but he's also really goofy."
That quality, Sibilly said, makes Travis attractive to Dom, "because Dom is a little more by the book, plays by the rules.... He finds that intriguing in Travis. The more he can hang around him, the more he will and wants to."
Sounds like a crush, all right.
Asked about his many LGBTQ+ roles and whether that's something he's "adamant" about when taking on gigs, the openly queer actor joked, "I will play whatever I'm given. In this economy?"
Sibilly added: "I will say that I do get a special joy out of playing queer characters because there's not a lot of us out there on TV. So, I feel very blessed to be able to embody these characters, especially, you know, a gay firefighting badass. Those stories deserve to be told too, so it's very exciting to be able to do that."
The introduction of Dom's character so late in the show's run could be a means for the producers and writers to edge up to a satisfying finale that will see the two characters ride off into the sunset as a couple.
"For fans of Travis specifically, I think Dom offers a sort of resolution and excitement for what could be for Travis," Sibilly teased. "If you've watched the show, you've seen him go through many men. I think Dom offers a different flavor and a different understanding of what Travis could see for his life."
